This was a project where we had to write a parallel paragraph to a very detailed paragraph from To Kill a Mockingbird.
Baseball was almost here; Vince and I have been looking forward to it with hope that it will be fun. Baseball was the best time of the year: it was waking up early in the morning to go play, and chewing salty sunflower seeds; baseball was Vince and I’s life; it was a brand new computer; but most of all; baseball was life.
Eighth Grade Is…
Eighth grade is a roller coaster because you have been waiting so long in line to get on. Then when you get on the ride, you are sort of scared just like at the beginning of eighth grade. Finally, you get going and get to the top of the ride just like you are on top of your school. Eighth grade will take some crazy twists and turns just like those crazy rides at the amusement parks. Those cars you sit in are like the classrooms that you are trapped in. When you get off the ride, you are relieved it’s over, and you are ready for high school and the next ride.
My goals for this winter-term are: I want to try and find more inductive questions to bring to the table. I want to improve my ability to focus in class which will probably mean I will have to move away from my peers. I would like to follow directions the first time more often. Lastly, I will think of what I say more before I say it to my peers.
I really enjoyed doing this project. I think I used a good majority of description on this project and a lot of voice from the characters. I learned how to put quotes in from people and that when a person is talking to themselves or about their inner thoughts you have to italicize them. It was hard for me to do the editing part. It was hard for me to stay on track when I was editing because I already knew what was going to happen. It was easy for me to think of new things to write about because it was based on a true story. Next time I would plan my writing out more because on the last night I had to edit my whole story.
On this project we had to write an exact parallel of a paragraph from the book "A Christmas Carol," by Charles Dickens. I learned that it is very hard to write a parallel of a paragraph using the language from fifty years ago or even more. I felt I used a lot of good description on this project.
In came a fan with a foam finger, and went up to the grand stands, and made a musical of it, and sounded like clashing of 259 lockers at three o’clock. In came Ron Washington, with a face of determination. In came three sons nine year olds, running and joyful. In came the six old fans that have “Giants” spelled across each one of their chests in orange and black. In came all the bandwaggoners and fans that wished they knew more than three players on the Giants. In came the chef, with his son, the vender. In came the boy from the sandlot, who was suspected of not having enough money; trying to look like he fits in with all the other crazy fans and drunks, who were screaming and chanting. In they all came, one after another, some loudly, some quietly, some lonely, some happily, some pushing, some jumping; in they all came, anyhow and everyhow.
In this essay I will talk about how this story relates to middle school behavior and what must we do to make sure our civilized nature stays under control? This story relates to middle school because there are leaders in middle school just like there are on the island. I think that Jack and his Castle Rock group are like the very popular kids and they can bully kids around. Then Ralph’s group is the unpopular group that is nice and calm and thinks about others. Some leaders in middle school aren’t assigned to be leaders they just become them. On the island most of the time the kids will take charge to survive. I see a parallel between kids on the island and kids at school because kids at school can get it big fights too. The only difference is that middle school fights are verbal not physical and lead to killing like on the island. The fights on the island were far beyond physical “The sticks fell and the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed. The beast was on its knees in the center, its arms folded over its face. It was crying out against the abominable noise, something about a body on the hill.” (pg. 152) Many verbal fights can be as bad as physical fights because some verbal fights can lead to suicide. I think the main thing is that there are going to be fights anywhere no matter which direction you go.
Next I will talk about what must we do to make sure our civilized nature stays in control? I think the main thing that will help everyone stay civilized if we were stuck on the island is to not have a leader and to just have a republic. This means that everyone has the same power as anyone else. I think that if our whole class was stuck on an island our savage inside of us would take over our civilization. I think that the boys should have just not chosen a leader and worked together to find food, water, shelter and just to survive. If they did this the whole book would be way different, and there would be no conflicts. Just like in Lord of the Flies the boys savage speaks not even a month after they were stuck on the island. “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!” (pg. 186) I highly doubt that they would have said that in a civilized city. This makes me wonder how did the boys act before they got on that plane were they calm? Were they leaders in the school? This concludes my essay on the Lord of the Flies. I stated how this related to middle school, and how the boys should have made it so that civilization was more powerful then savage. I hope you enjoyed it.
Water is found
Out of springs
From the tall,
so many types
Pond lake and river
is one of the many necessities
colors of water,
It really makes me mad
When you see a
And people pour packets in
in to make
water taste like lemonade
All water is the same
And it all ends up
In the same
People say that
Some waters taste different
But to me all water is
Water except if you taste
Water from a
Long time ago.
Water and nobody
So now after this
I want you to go
Home and praise
The water and
And hug it
Just like a
Brand new puppy
The polar bear is hungry and so fat
Besides all that fat his hear is so soft
His girlfriend is so nice her name is Pat
She gets scared of me when I do a cough
All he gobbles up is those giant fish
To get into the water he will dive
After he gets the fish he says delish
Since he is done he will go for a dive
He lives ontop of that white comfy snow
His igloo is made out of cozy ice
When he dances he puts on a good show
The only thing that bugs him is those lice
He’s sorry he has to finally go
He has to go put on an awesome show
